This is a full day workshop, with a half-day follow-up, is intended for teachers, teaching artists, staff of art organizations, and paraprofessionals. The full day workshop will include a morning discussion of characteristics/ behaviors of children on the autism spectrum and strategies/interventions to help engage learners in the classroom setting. This will be followed by an afternoon engaged in arts activities designed to support the creative participation of children on the autism spectrum.
The follow up date will allow participants to come together for a second time and engage with our teaching artist for an informal conversation about what’s working and where there is opportunity for change.
Space for both dates will be limited so don’t delay!
Our autism specialist will be Brett Gilleo, LLC of Big Sky Therapeutic Services in Great Falls, who works extensively with children on the spectrum, as well as families and teachers, to support successful learning experiences.
Our teaching artist will be Marlene Schumann, M.Ed. Marlene has her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Montana State University and her BA in Art and Mass Communication. She specializes in assessment strategies for learners of all abilities.
Full day workshop is April 5, 2014. Follow up is May 10, 2014.
