Proposed Rule on Student Records - Hearing December 16thWednesday, November 30, 2011, 3:33 pm
On December 16, 2011 at 9 a.m. the Board of Public Education (BPE) will hold a public hearing in the Superintendent's conference room at 1227 11th Avenue, Helena, to consider a proposed amendment to ARM 10.55.909 relating to student records. As proposed, the rule amends the list of elements that must be included in a student's permanent record to include the statewide student identifier assigned by the Office of Public Instruction.
The OPI has presented assumptions to both the BPE and the legislative interim Education and Local Government Committee indicating that the proposed rule will not have a significant fiscal impact on schools. School districts are required by exisitng BPE administrative rules to maintain a permanent file of student records. The statewide student identifier is stored by school districts in their local student information systems. Therefore, it is assumed that school districts can meet the proposed requirement within their existing human and financial resources.
Comments on the proposed rule may be submitted orally or in writing at the hearing.
