Montana Common Core StandardsMonday, October 31, 2011, 5:05 pm
The OPI team working on the transition to Montana Common Core Standards (MCCS) is preparing for the Board of Public Education to adopt those standards Friday November 4th. The team has produced an implementation plan for educators outlining what schools, teachers, and parents will need to know in order for schools to successfully align instruction, curriculum and assessments to the new standards in Mathematics,English Language Arts and Literacy by 2014-2015.
While good change can cause some stress, the OPI is confident that students, schools, and the community will benefit by these rigorous standards that help ensure our students graduate college and career ready. Educators, parents and students will have a clear understanding of what students need to know and be able to do at every grade level. To aid in the transition, The OPI team will launch a new website on November 7th Getting Every Montana Student College and Career Ready: The Montana Common Core Standards. The site will provide valuable resources and more in-depth information on the plan for implementation.
Educators from around the state are signing up for professional development workshops on how to integrate MCCS into their classrooms and school districts. Seventy people are signed up for the training on November 10-11th and 140 are registered for the training December 1-2nd.
