Joyce Silverthorne hired as Director of the Office of Indian Education at USEDWednesday, August 31, 2011, 11:36 am
To the sound of great applause from her colleagues at OPI, Joyce Silverthorne has been selected by the U.S. Department of Education to serve as its Director of the Office of Indian Education. Joyce has a many years of service to K-12 education in Montana. In addition to serving for two years as Superintendent Juneau's P-20 Policy Advisor, Joyce has served on the Board of Public Education for ten years, worked as the tribal education department director for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, and served as a consultant to education reform efforts conducted by the Montana legislature. She was the 2008 Tribal Education Department National Assembly (TEDNA) Director of the year and 2004 National Indian Education Association Educator (NIEA) of the year. Joyce begins her employment in Washington DC on September 12. We wish her the very best in her new endeavor!
