GEMS Data WarehouseTuesday, March 6, 2012, 8:41 am
We've spent the last 8 months building the 'Student Achievement' components of GEMS and laying the foundation for the GEMS environment, getting the infrastructure in place, the platform software configured, developing and testing the custom software components and so on in each of the 4 key areas of a Longitudinal Data System. Over 50 interviews and meetings have been held to gather requirements and work on designs for the system. We’ve also included external stakeholders like school district personnel in our design sessions get gather feedback and will continue this process through this year as we roll out new features and data access. We’ve built Student Achievement and some other General Agency Information into a centralized data warehouse and will move forward with other domains this year. We’ve created over 25 reports, dashboards, and other tools for this first release around 6 different data marts ranging from CRT and AYP to GED.
The first release of GEMS is currently being piloted by the OPI and 7 various schools throughout the state. The statewide rollout of the GEMS 'Student Achievement' domain will likely be made available via secured access as early as March 12, 2012! The secure site will initially only be released to schools and districts who have requested access for about the first 6 weeks. This will give them an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the site and the data prior to releasing to the public.
