Let’s Get Cooking mini grants

Thursday, December 27, 2012, 1:36 pm

Montana Team Nutrition Program is proud to announce the "Let’s Get Kids Cooking Mini Grant Program" that can support Montana schools (in classes, afterschool programs or clubs) in helping teach children food preparation skills centered around nutrient-rich and tasty foods and beverages.   Through the support of a 2011 USDA Team Nutrition Training grant awarded to the Montana Office of Public Instruction, eight $500 mini-grants will be awarded to Montana school districts participating in a National School Meals Programs by this competitive mini-grant program.

In order to encourage collaboration with school foodservice programs and to educate students on USDA Foods, foodservice program support is a requirement of the application.  Support would be provided by allowing some of the USDA Foods to be served in the kids cooking program and having the foodservice manager can provide information on USDA Foods to students. Please review the application for additional details.

The deadline for mini – grant applications to be submitted is January 7, 2013.   Funds and grant activities must be spent and completed by August 30, 2013. The application is posted at the following web site: http://opi.mt.gov/Programs/SchoolPrograms/School_Nutrition/index.html#gpm1_2
