School Meals and Menu Certification

Tuesday, August 28, 2012, 10:50 am

OPI School Nutrition Programs is offering regional workshops to school foodservice managers/directors to learn the Menu Certification Process for the new USDA Meal Pattern.  The workshops will provide training on the steps to submit the required forms to receive the additional reimbursement ($0.06) for meeting the nutrition standards and new USDA Meal Pattern.   The workshops will be repeated during the school year in locations around the state.

It is recommended that participants who attend workshops have a week of lunch and breakfast menus ready to submit for certification.   Each workshop is four hours in length and is done in a computer lab using the Microsoft software program called Excel. Go to http://www.keysurvey.com/f/450321/1542/ for registration locations and more information.

To preview the menu certification tools, please go to USDA's website at http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/Governance/Legislation/certificationofcompliance.htm

OPI is required to visit 25% of all school districts in 2012-13 to validate the menu certification tools submitted by the school district.  If your school is selected for validation, you will be notified prior to the arrival of a reviewer. To learn more about validation, please go to SP 40-2012: Certification of Compliance with New Meal Patterns - Validation Review Checklists
