Take the HealthierUS School ChallengeTuesday, March 1, 2011, 9:23 am
Be recognized as one of the healthiest schools in Montana and across the nation by taking the HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC). The HUSSC recognizes schools that maintain healthy school environments by improving the quality of meals and increasing physical activity and nutrition education. Currently 1074 HUSSC awards have been made to schools across the United States; with 9 of these awards going to Montana schools.
It is now easier and more appealing for schools to take the HUSSC:
- Schools receive monetary incentives for earning HUSSC certification: $2,000 for Gold Award of Distinction, $1,500 for Gold, $1,000 for Silver and $500 for Bronze
- Bronze level certification requires no minimum participation in the school lunch program
- MT Team Nutrition will provide assistance throughout the application process. We invite anyone interested in the HUSSC to participate in an informational/technical assistance telephone call offered on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The next call is March 9, 2011 from 3:30 - 4:30 pm. The phone call will allow for questions and answers, discussion, and application tips. The call is open to both school and community members. For dialing instructions, please check the MT OPI School Nutrition Program website at http://www.opi.mt.gov/Programs/SchoolPrograms/School_Nutrition/HealthyMT.html#gpm1_2.
