Title I, Part D - Neglected and Delinquent Program Updates

Tuesday, August 28, 2012, 11:18 am

The Office of Public Instruction (OPI) Neglected & Delinquent program staff are preparing for the fall count and would like to make all districts aware of changes to the way those counts will be taken. Count surveys are mailed directly to facilities that provide residential care to youth in foster care and in the juvenile justice system. However, districts may receive questions and should be aware of changes. This year we are asking all facilities to report the total number of children who resided in the facility for at least one day (24-hour period) during the 30-day count period. This change may result in facilities reporting higher numbers, or reporting numbers for the first time. We will also be surveying all detention facilities to ensure an accurate count of older youth that may be detained in local adult facilities.
