Superintendent Juneau Convenes Fall Meeting of Student Advisory Board
Students to Focus on Student Wellness

Helena, MT - Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau will convene the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board (SAB) in Helena on Sunday and Monday, October 27 and 28. Students will gather Sunday evening at Exploration Works and at the Fish Wildlife and Parks (FWP) Wild Classroom at Spring Meadow Lake on Monday. The focus of the Fall meeting of the Student Advisory Board is student wellness, including healthy choices, personal safety, and mental well-being.

“Hearing from students about what is going on in their schools and getting their ideas about what we can do to help improve the education system has proven vital to my work,” said Superintendent Juneau. “I’m interested in hearing from students about what they believe are the most critical health and safety issues for teens, how adults in their schools and communities can support them in staying safe and healthy, and what they can do as students to support each other.”

The Student Advisory Board consists of 38 high school students from 33 Montana schools. It was created as part of Superintendent Juneau's statewide initiative, Graduation Matters Montana. Graduation Matters Montana aims to increase the number of Montana students who graduate from high school prepared for college and careers.

Student Advisory Board members were first nominated by local school and community members and also had to apply for selection to the board.  The board members are traveling from rural communities such as Hobson and Absarokee and from large communities such as Helena and Billings.
