Question:Which school district is responsible for transporting a student who attends outside his district of residence?
Answer:
Usually the district where the student attends will transport him. If the resident district signs an attendance agreement, even if tuition is not an obligation of the resident district, the student may be counted as an eligible transportee of the district of attendance. That means the district of attendance may enter a TR-4 Individual Transportation Contract to reimburse the parent for mileage and/or may transport the student as an eligible rider on their buses.
Question:
What mileage can a parent claim for reimbursement when a student attends out-of-district?
Answer:
The mileage to the CLOSEST school or bus stop, regardless of which district it’s in. If the student is placed by a state agency or IEP in anther district, the parent may claim reimbursement to the school or bus stop of the school the student attends.
