New Medical Requirements for CDL holders:
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is now requiring that all interstate/intrastate commercial motor vehicle (CDL) holders may only have their medical certification or recertification performed by a licensed Ph.D. that is on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (National Registry).
Effective: May 21, 2012
Compliance required: Beginning May, 21, 2014
The National Registry ensures that all MEs who conduct driver medical certifications have been trained in FMCSA physical qualifications standards and guidelines. (49 CFR 390.103)
