How can I find out how much time is needed for a "unit" of time.
Explain 2-01-301 MCA and what is required for aggregate hours for the year?
Our school day is almost as long as another school’s that switched to 4 day weeks. We are attending 5 days a week.
Do you look at a school’s schedules to check the time spent in classes and length of day?
Answer:
According to the Accreditation Division:
Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM) 10.55.906 (1) (a) (Accreditation Standards) states: " (a) A unit of credit is defined as the equivalent of at least 225 minutes per week for one year." In the revised Chapter 55 rule the required minutes will be 8100 minutes for the year to accommodate various block schedules.
20-1-301 Montana Code Annotated (MCA) details the number of aggregate hours for the school day by grade. Aggregate hours may include passing time, but may not include recess or lunch (unless the recess is a structured and supervised recess for all students). The requirement of aggregate hours is a minimum. Many schools exceed the minimum number of hours. School schedules showing starting and ending time, recess and lunch, are required to be sent to the Office of Public Instruction as part of the Annual Data Collection.
