Reporting Referral and permission to test student

Question:

We have a couple of students this year who are in need of an IEP who do notyet have one.  They are coming in with extensive reports and there is no need for further testing.

My question is about referral and permission to test.

  • Do we still check all the areas on the form even if there will be no additional testing in those areas?  We plan to just summarize the testingon infinite campus.
  • Do we check the areas and then write below: file summary?

What is the best practice?

Answer:

Every evaluation of a student for special education must include current Classroom Based Assessments and Observations.  These procedures require the informed consent of the parent prior to gathering the information.  If the child's evaluation team members have reviewed the available information and determined that no additional assessments are necessary, then the Evaluation Plan document would only indicate the areas of Classroom Based Assessment and Observations.
