How should a student working at home, through an on-line academic program, be recorded in the AIM System?
It depends on the situation: Distance Learning: If the student is enrolled in a program or course at district expense using electronic or offsite delivery methods, including distance learning programs, online programs, or technology delivered learning programs, while attending a school of the district or any other nonsectarian offsite instructional setting with approval of the trustees of a district, and if the online program is delivered by an approved provider, registered with the Office of Public Instruction, per Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM) 10.55.907, then for AIM purposes, the student should be considered enrolled in the school. Transfer to Home School: If the student has officially left school to be home schooled, and is registered with the county superintendent, the student should be coded in the AIM system with and End Status Code of 170, "Transfer to a home school in the state." Dropout: If the student is not taking the class at district expense through an approved distance learning provider, and if the student has left school, and if the school has not been notified that the student is being home-schooled, the student should be considered a dropout. In the AIM system, the district should select the enrollment end status and corresponding dropout code that best fit the individual student's situation. A recommendation that should cover the majority of these situations would be exiting the student using an Enrollment End Status of 300, "withdrew for personal or academic reasons" and assigning a dropout reason of 16 – "Other Known Reason."
